Dear Uncertainty

The conundrums of TRIPS
Attempting to plan and tie ends together
Collecting pieces to a grand puzzle
Only there is no box top to prop
Up on the table to see the end result
Imagine having a jigsaw puzzle
With no clue what you were making
That is my present state of affairs
And perhaps anyone who tries to travel
Especially on a budget
Knows this all too well
…Or maybe its just me
But it gives me weird energy

Trying to make future connections
In a foreign country
Wondering just how many things
Will most definitely go wrong
Forgetting to remember how many things
Will most definitely go right
Which is the beauty of it all
That UNCERTAINTY

That’s the tension creating my anxiety
The desire for comfort, knowing, familiarity
And all the limits of the mind those bring
Vs. Knowing travel is adventurous by design
It is the catalyst to develop that life skill
Of rolling with the punches and
Making the best of whatever comes my way

Trips and travels are some of the truest joys
Maybe its harder to recall that amid Covid times
But I don’t want to be subservient to familiarity and safety
Control - it’s a farce. Don’t waste your time

Dear Unknown,

Will you please be my best friend forever! And teach me how to be your best friend too!

With sincerity,

Benjamin
